| Bluestar’s
innovative Corvus software offers
its customers tailored views for different groups, individuals or
devices. In this manner the same application functionality can be
provided on a standard desktop, network PC, browser only machine,
laptop, hand-held or in-vehicle
device.
The configuration of the software on hand-held
or in-vehicle devices is known as "Mobile Corvus". As
well as a number of specific Mobile Corvus modules, Bluestar has
developed the pioneering BlackBerry Location Engine.
Corvus BlackBerry Location Engine
What Is It?
The Corvus Location Engine is a software solution
that utilises a GPS enabled BlackBerry hand-held device to pro-actively
supply officers with relevant local information.
It produces maps of the users current location
with details of the most recent events plotted. These events can
include incidents from the Force Command & Control system, previous
crime locations and offender addresses as well as locations of fellow
officers.
All events are categorised by their type and are
colour coded to indicate their priority or importance. Serious events
are shown in a darker colour.
The system also provides single sign-on access
to the whole Mobile Corvus system, giving one login for all configured
services.
How does it work?
The GPS network is used to regularly obtain the
users current location (accurate to 10 metres). This location information
is logged and recorded by the Corvus system, and relevant events
plotted and returned to the device. Further details of all the events
are also sent back to the device.
What does it show?
The primary feature shows a map with the current
location marked and the recent events around it. However, Corvus
will record each user's location so maps can be generated showing
the route a user took with their BlackBerry. A secondary feature
is the location log. This allows a user to create a log associated
to a location (if appropriate this proves a user has been at that
location). These logs can be added by anyone to record relevant
information about any location. Nearby location logs can then be
searched for by other users.
Features
- Zoom – between 100m-2km.
For 100m-1200m OS 10k maps are shown, above 1200m OS 50k maps
are shown.
Points Of Interest (POI) - These can be created on Corvus and are independent
of any event and will appear on the maps.
- Map Quality – This is
a setting to improve speed. High quality maps can be shown which
are much smoother and clearer, however you can switch to lower
quality maps for an improved download speed.
- Officers – Optionally
show other officers in the area who have GPS enabled BlackBerries.
- Roaming Mode – This
allows you to view anywhere, regardless of your current location.
- Map Options – Allows
you to control what incidents should be shown, by date/time or
by type
